Commissioning Works Click here to go back By commissioning a musical composition, the commissioner receives a dedicated premiere of the work and his or her name appears on every score and recording published and produced. In addition, the dedication is announced each time the work is publicly performed or broadcast through media. The budget depends on a number of factors, such as duration, instrumentation, style, as well as the nature of the funding source. If the commission comes from a professional musician or an ensemble interested in giving its premier performance, the cost can be quite flexible, although it should at least cover for the composer’s time invested in working on the piece.
