COMMISSIONS How it works... By commissioning a musical composition, the commissioner receives a dedicated premiere of the work and his/her name appears on every score and recording published and produced. In addition, the dedication is likely to be announced each time the work is publicly performed or broadcast through media. The budget depends on a number of factors, such as the duration of the piece, instrumentation, style, as well as the nature of the funding source. If the commission comes from a professional musician or an ensemble, interested in giving its premier performance, the cost can be quite flexible, although it should at least cover for the composer’s time invested in working on the piece.
